Welcome to the Circle of Doors Tarot – an exquisite, multiple-exposure, photographic exploration of the mysteries of the Tarot.
This project is two-fold: the 78-card tarot deck, and the interactive art installation.
Each ethereal image taps into the hidden language of ancient symbolism and the timeless wisdom of feminine sacred knowledge. A blending of portraiture with the abstract, the black and white images weave a complex ecosystem of layers and textures into ghostly, illustrative allegories.
These fine art photographs are all-female, contemporary elucidations of an intricate, centuries-old iconography.
The mystery of the Tarot in Latin is the “Arcana,” in its singular form, Arcanum. It is that which is hidden away, a mystery accessible only to those curious of mind, open to awareness, knowledge and transformation.
Consisting of the 22 Major and 56 Minor Arcana cards, the divinatory art of Tarot illuminates our most complex dilemmas and desires, awakens ideas sleeping in our consciousness and reveals hidden truths in the depths of our spirit.
The archetypal power of each image can be viewed as a single, multiple or varied exhibit, paired alone or in any number of unifying themes. Presentation possibilities are endless: from the ever-turning wheel of life—in seasons, directions or phases of the moon—to the cosmic dimension and underlying concepts of our daily lives that cause us to thrive and self-destruct—regret, grief, addiction, strength, confidence, agency and acceptance—it all lives in the Tarot.

A massive 26-foot diameter circle adorned by 22 doors, each with a stunning photograph of the Major Arcana, the Circle of Doors Tarot invites you to step through a doorway and choose a card.
Enter into halos of flickering flames, a spinning drum of dancing lights, a moody ambience, and an aura of possibilities. This powerful, large scale, interactive installation provides a container for the divinatory art of Tarot readings.
The installation debuted at Burning Man Festival 2014 as Wheel of Fortune, an honorarium grant recipient. In the years since, it has appeared at festivals and events across the country, returning to Burning Man in 2022 expanded and transformed into Circle of Doors Tarot.
On the interior gazebo sits pedestals of reclaimed wood on top of which rests one-of-a-kind, hand-sewn and hand-printed leather-bound books on the mystery of the Tarot, allowing guests to learn more about their card.
Four beautiful, rustic additional structures made of salvaged materials and representing the Minor Arcana- the triumphs and tragedies of our living narrative--can be additionally exhibited. Each of these outposts showcase 14 stunning images from the suits of the Minor Arcana.
The Circle of Doors Tarot is a fiery invocation of deep feminine wisdom and power. An exploration of what connects us all in the golden tapestry of life, it is an invitation to think about our shared humanity through introspection and conscious conversation.
